If You Build it, They Will Vive

The Fovitec StudioPRO is a set of telescopic tripods, specifically designed to fit the HTC Vive’s Lighthouses. If you are unable to ceiling mount your lighthouses or tend to move your setup frequently, whether it be from giving demos or out of necessity, the Fovitec StudioPRO will help get your eyes in the sky working so you can keep up appearances in the virtual world.

Fovitec StudioPRO Review

The Fovitec StudioPRO is designed to give the user options when it comes to HTC Vive lighthouse placement, to ensure the best experience. Especially relevant for those who have to relocate their HTC Vive setup, the Fovitec StudioPRO will give you the ability to set up anywhere you desire, with adjustments being remarkably easy to do.

Each tripod has multiple telescopic poles that allow you to go as tall or short as needed for your individual setup. Each pole is spring loaded. As a result, it will help guide itself into the air and stay in place as you secure it in place with the hand screws.

Most noteworthy, at the top of each pole is a ball pivot-joint. This enables you to easily adjust the angle your lighthouse is pointed at. You may find it difficult to set up both tripods at the exact same height, as there are no markings or physical indicators of how tall the poles are while adjusting them.

We highly suggest the use of a measuring tape or set them up side by side before moving them into their respective corners.

Minimal, if any, adjustments were needed over a period of weeks in our lab. It is noted that if you are in an area with high additional foot traffic (office lobby, living room with small kids), the floor vibrations on the hardwood are enough to misalign your place space, very slowly over time.

This is probably due to the lightweight of the tripods. While this makes it very convenient to carry, it is prone to these vibrations. It was not affected by the individual playing in the room-scale space, however.

In addition, the included carrying bag was extra nice and holds both tripods with plenty of extra space for other accessories or items you may need for taking your setup on the road.

Therefore, it is very useful for minimizing the number of trips you need to make from your transport to the location of the setup.

Locked and Loaded

The shaft of the tripod is spring loaded and helps you propel the poles up to the correct height, without having to hold it in place while tightening it into place. Once set, the poles are securely set at the right height!

Anyway You Want It...

Carry On, My Viveward Son

The included carrying bag fits both tripods and even has space for extra cables or accessories. Overall quality of the bag is quite nice.

Cons

K

Not A Heavyweight

The tri-pods are very lightweight. While this is nice for moving them, it also means that other persons walking nearby may cause vibrations that travel up the pole to the lighthouses, if you have them set to max height. This is negligable if there is low to no additional foot traffic.
K

Free-Form Height Adjustment

There are no markings or pre-set heights to help adjust both lighthouses to be at the same height, so it must be done manually; get out a measuring tape or stand them side by side to be sure.
