Find the absolute best accessories guide for your HTC Vive
When you first dive into the HTC Vive the number of accessories available for purchase can be overwhelming. Do you really need all these bits and bobs to get the most out of your new HTC Vive? In this HTC Vive accessories guide, we try to condense this into an easily digestible list so you can find the best of the best when it comes to accessories.
HTC Vive accessories guide – Official
We reviewed the HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap earlier this year and we can say, hands down, that this accessory should be considered a MUST-HAVE. The level of additional immersion and added comfort is second to none. This is one of the best Vive accessories you will ever buy. This was rated a solid 94% and it probably deserves to be higher.
The Vive Tracker is an amazing little addon accessory that allows you to bring nearly any object you can hold in your hands directly into the game. This small sensor has a mounting pin on the underside that can be attached to baseball bats, Fake rifles or pistols – Like this NES Style Blaster!
The original HTC Vive from the early days included three cables melded together, so this cable is a nice upgrade. As long as you have the original in good working order, there is no reason to buy this but if your cables are starting to show wear and tear, upgrading to this simplified and condensed HTC Vive 3-in-1 cable.
Little known fact about the HTC Vive is that the headset has a built-in USB Port that allows you to plug in any USB enabled accessory directly into the headset, meaning one less cable sprawling across the floor. Of course, any USB Extender cable will work, but the HTC Vive USB Cable is quality made and has a nice L-Shape which makes cables sit more naturally when attached to your head.
When you unbox your HTC Vive it only comes with one nose guard, and often in the case of people with large noses like me, your enormous snoz might let light into your viewing port. This is bad as it washed out the screen in the best of cases and can make the HTC Vive barely functional when face with a truly enormous snout. Enter the HTC Vive Nose Rest which comes in multiple sizes and will eliminate this problem quickly and easily.
Your HTC Vive comes with two motion controllers and even the most safety conscious among us will inevitably damage them. Thats why its good to know you can buy just the Motion Controllers without having to buy a whole new HTC Vive. Check Amazon for the best possible prices.
HTC Vive accessories guide – Third Party
The HTC Vive can be cumbersome at times, especially when tethered to a single point like your PC. Unless you are rocking a VR Backpack PC like this one then you will be leashed to a certain point. Enter the TPCast Wireless Upgrade Kit – a full conversion for your HTC Vive headset that will make your session wireless. It is a game changer and makes the HTC Vive feel complete.
The HTC Vive system currently uses the Lightboxes and Motion Controllers to track your hand movements but to truly feel like your hands are really in a VR experience, look no further than the Leap Motion Tracker. This device uses a very focused band of IR light to provide real-time tracking of your appendages down to the millimeter, changing the way you play forever.
More and more games and social experience simulators are adding support for the Leap Motion tracker every month.
The HTC Vive system currently ships with two (2) foam face protectors, but even a few sessions will demonstrate just how sweaty and gross these things can get and quickly. We recommend changing them anytime they smell funny and if you have a big household, it might be worth having quite a few of these around as they ground down and become less than optimal.
If you are as enthusiastic about the HTC Vive as we are, then you will likely want to take it on the road and show it off to your friends and family. This is an expensive and somewhat delicate device, so you WILL want to make sure you have the right protection during transport. The Hyperkin Polygon VR Protector Bag is perfect for traveling and protecting your gear at the same time.
Some people, us included hate the idea of permanent mounting of our Lighthouses, as we like to expand and reorganize our PlaySpace quite often. Sometimes when we have extra visitors we need to stretch out the available area or move to a new room entirely. We personally cannot get enough of the Fovitec StudioPRO mounting system. It is inexpensive and it gets the job done quickly and easily, meaning you can easily change anything you like about your current space.
